The recorded history dates back to the 16th century AD when the Ahom rulers of Assam expanded their kingdom to this region. The British maintained a policy of non-interference, and it wasn’t until 1962, when China attacked, that efforts were made to counter future border disputes. Modern amenities such as roads, electricity, and democratic institutions were introduced, leading to the state’s transformation into a union territory in 1972 and eventually the 24th state of India in 1987.
